Hickory is a heavy, hard American wood species that is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is exceptionally tough, impact-resistant, and resilient. The ATLAS hickory handle is also waxed with the plant-based Carnauba wax. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its attractive natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
