With this rivet you can install a Spear & Jackson or Atlas spade yourself.

40 mm rivet for mounting milled-end spade handles, packed in a hanging blister of 10 pieces.
These rivets are used for mounting milled end spade shafts to, among others, Spear & Jackson spades or Atlas gooseneck spades.

Adjust spade

1) Remove the old rivet by carefully grinding off the round head and punching it out.

2) Remove the old wood from the socket or neck. This is easiest when the wood is dry.

3) Carefully insert the new handle into the swan neck and ensure that the grip is parallel to the spade blade.

4) Tap the handle upside down (with the spade blade up) against the floor, up to the milled end. Place a thick piece of cardboard on the floor beforehand to prevent damage to the handle or the floor.

5) Then secure the spade firmly in a bench vise.

6) Drill with a wood drill bit straight through the hole in the side of the socket or neck to halfway through the handle, and repeat this action from the other side.

7) Insert the rivet through the hole.

8) Remove the spade from the vise and place the spade with the rounded head of the rivet on the now-tightened vise.

9) Gently peen the rivet all around with a light engineer's hammer.

10) The spade is now professionally adjusted and ready for use.
