The Okatsune 104 bypass pruning shear, with a shear length of 210 mm (10 mm longer than the 103), is particularly suited for larger hands. The blades of this razor-sharp pruning shear are forged from the finest Japanese steel (the same steel used to make samurai katana swords) and allow you to effortlessly cut branches up to 25 mm in diameter from shrubs, roses, fruit trees and climbers. Okatsune pruning shears are the undisputed number one in Japan — a country that has elevated pruning to a true art.

The blades of this Japanese pruning shear (Sentei Basami) are uniquely forged from the finest IZUMO YASUGI steel and have a very high hardness of 60–61 Rockwell. This keeps the blades sharp for a long time and always produces a clean, precise cut in wood without requiring much force. In addition, Okatsune combines this hardness with exceptional flexibility, so the cutting blade always aligns well with the counter blade, even under heavy load.

The blade is ground at two angles, allowing it to cut smoothly into the wood and preventing unnecessary damage to the plant. Thanks to the unique shape of the hollow-ground blade, sap flows away from the blade and the blades do not splay apart. The V-shape of the spring ensures the load is evenly distributed along the length of the spring, guaranteeing a smooth closure.

The blades are very easy to sharpen with the Okatsune whetstone (Okatsune 412). The shears feature a locking mechanism that can be operated with one hand. Don't forget to order a leather holster at the same time.

The shears are built from only a few parts, so they require little maintenance. It is recommended to clean the blades after use. After cleaning, it is advisable to oil the shears and store them in a dry place with the cutting blades closed. If you notice the shears cutting less well, you can sharpen them with the Okatsune whetstone.
