Pickaxe handle ATLAS 90 cm round, head size 55 mm

Pickaxe handle or piochesteel ATLAS, round, made of ash wood, with head size 55 mm and length 90 cm. Suitable for pickaxes with a round hole. For mounting this tapered handle no wedge is required.

ATLAS pickaxe handles are made from ash rootstocks; these contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and the tool stays firmly attached to the handle.

Next the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive natural color. Waxing provides a longer life and a pleasant smooth handle, which helps prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
