Gooseneck shovel handles are recognizable by the thickened lower section of the handle. The thickened lower section makes the handle extra strong and ensures it fits securely in the hand. This lightly bent gooseneck shovel handle is usually used together with a straight digging shovel.

ATLAS gooseneck shovel handles are made from ash wood rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink, the tool stays firmly mounted to the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.

The ATLAS handle is then waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and helps it retain its beautiful natural color. The waxing ensures a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
