ATLAS shovel handle made of ash wood, bent model, 140 cm in length. A shovel handle is often used together with a concrete shovel, scoop shovel, stable shovel, or a cable shovel.ATLAS shovel handles are made from ash wood rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is machine-controlled dried back in a climate chamber. By drying back, the tool stays firmly attached to the handle. The ATLAS shovel handles are then bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain or fiber in the handle to bend along with it, preventing the grain from running out of the handle (a run-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong. Finally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with the plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and preserves the beautiful light color. The waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, waxing handles with plant-based wax is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.ATLAS shovel handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths.
