Hoe plaats je een mollenklem?

Mollen maken eerst een zogenaamde ringgang rondom het perceel. Deze gang blijft de mol steeds gebruiken om zich te verplaatsen. Vanuit de ringgang maakt de mol loopgangen in verschillende richtingen, waardoor hij verder het perceel in gaat. De mol zal de loopgangen regelmatig gebruiken, daarom is dit een geschikte plaats om een mollenklem te plaatsen. Of een loopgang in gebruik is controleer je door deze dicht te drukken en de dag erop te checken of deze weer open is gemaakt door de mol.

Place the mole trap in a straight section of tunnel, as close as possible to the ring run when possible. Are the runs too deep? Then place the trap in the ring run.

Carefully open the tunnel and then remove all loose soil. Place the trap in the opening and check whether it can close easily. Set the mole trap and place it in the tunnel. If desired, test whether the trap can easily snap shut.
Always place the set trap with the setting pin at the top, angled in the tunnel so that the setting plate is at an angle of about 135 degrees. Close the opening by sprinkling some loose soil around the trap and cover the area with, for example, pieces of turf or leaves.

Check the mole trap daily! Remove a caught mole as quickly as possible and always immediately reset the trap. This is because the tunnels are often used by multiple moles. No mole caught after three days? Then the tunnel is almost certainly no longer in use. Check other tunnels for activity and move the trap to a tunnel that is still being visited. Always clean the mole trap thoroughly after use with a stiff brush and store it in a dry place.

Moles have a very keen sense of smell, so it is advisable to wear gloves when handling and placing mole traps. Generally, a property contains up to 15 moles per hectare. In some cases, this can even rise to 25 to 30 moles.
