Sediment dredge DE WIT with ring, without handle

DE WIT sediment dredge is supplied with a ring for attachment to a handle. A hemp or nylon dredging net can be mounted on the sediment dredge.

A sediment dredge, also called a drag dredge, is suitable for pulling silt, sludge, excess aquatic plants, and other sediment from ditches, canals, and ponds to the shore. By dragging the dredge along the bottom with a pulling or dragging motion, material is brought up.

For a suitable handle for a DE WIT sediment dredge, you can choose a long pole or ditch hook handle. These are available in different lengths. Using the supplied ring, the dredge is attached to the handle.

A hemp or nylon net is mounted on the sediment dredge. A hemp dredging net holds silt and sludge better and is therefore the most suitable. The nylon net is often used to remove coarser debris and objects from the water.

In the past, a sediment dredge was used in wet peat extraction to scoop peat sludge from the bottom of a body of water. The peat was pulled ashore or deposited in a flat barge. The dredged material was then placed on a legakker so that turf could be made from it. With the sediment dredge, it was possible to dredge peat from deep below the waterline, a practice known as peat pulling or sludge turf cutting.
