ATLAS fencing maul and hammer handles are made from the lower trunks of ash trees, where the best wood is found. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. By re-drying the handle does not shrink and the hammer head remains firmly fixed to the handle.

Subsequently the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful light natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, which helps prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
