Okatsune 104 pruning shears, large model with a cutting capacity of up to 25 mm.
The Okatsune 104 bypass pruning shears, with a blade length of 210 mm (10 mm longer than the 103), are especially suitable for larger hands. The blades of these razor-sharp pruning shears are forged from the finest Japanese steel (the same steel used to make the Samurai’s Katana swords) and allow you to effortlessly cut branches up to 25 mm thick, including those from shrubs, roses, fruit trees, and climbing plants. Okatsune pruning shears are the undisputed number 1 in Japan: the country that has elevated pruning to a true art form.
The blades of these Japanese pruning shears (Sentei Basami) are uniquely forged from the finest IZUMO YASUGI steel and have a very high hardness of 60–61 Rockwell. As a result, the blades stay sharp for a long time and always make a clean, precise cut in the wood without requiring much force. In addition, Okatsune combines this hardness with exceptional flexibility, so the cutting blade always aligns properly with the counter blade, even under heavy use.
The blade is sharpened at two angles, allowing it to cut smoothly into the wood without unnecessarily damaging the plant. Thanks to the unique shape of the hollow-ground blade, sap flows away from the blade and the blades do not separate from each other. The V-shape of the spring ensures that the load is distributed evenly along the length of the spring, guaranteeing smooth closing.
The blades are very easy to sharpen with the Okatsune whetstone (Okatsune 412). The shears feature a locking system that can be operated with one hand. Don’t forget to order a leather holster right away.
The shears are made up of only a few parts, so little maintenance is required. It is recommended to clean the blades after use. After cleaning, it is wise to oil the shears and store them dry with the cutting blades closed. If you notice that the shears are cutting less effectively, you can sharpen them with the Okatsune whetstone.
