Pruning shears OKATSUNE 103, with a cutting capacity of up to 25 mm.
The Okatsune 103 is the most popular pruning shears in the range. With a shear length of 200 mm, this model is 20 mm larger than the 101 and 10 mm smaller than the 104. The blades of these razor-sharp pruning shears are forged from the best Japanese steel (the same steel used to make the Katana swords of the Samurai) and allow you to effortlessly cut branches up to 25 mm, including those of fruit trees, roses, climbers, and grapevines. Okatsune pruning shears are the undisputed number 1 in Japan: the country that has elevated pruning to a true art form.
The blades of these Japanese pruning shears (Sentei Basami) are uniquely forged from the finest IZUMO YASUGI steel and have a very high hardness of 60–61 Rockwell. As a result, the blades stay sharp for a long time and always make a clean, precise cut in the wood without requiring much force. In addition, Okatsune combines this hardness with exceptional flexibility, so the cutting blade always mates properly with the counter blade, even under heavy use.
The blade is sharpened at two angles, allowing it to cut smoothly into the wood and avoid unnecessary damage to the plant. Thanks to the unique shape of the hollow-ground blade, sap flows away from the blade and the blades do not drift apart. The V-shape of the spring ensures that the load is distributed evenly along the length of the spring, guaranteeing a smooth closing action.
The blades are very easy to sharpen with the Okatsune whetstone (Okatsune 412). The shears have a one-handed locking system. Don’t forget to order a leather holster along with it.
The shears are made up of only a few parts, so little maintenance is needed. It is recommended to clean the blades after use. After cleaning, it is wise to oil the shears and store them moisture-free with the cutting blades closed. If you notice that the shears are cutting less well, you can sharpen them with the Okatsune whetstone.
