Pruning shears OKATSUNE 101, compact model with a cutting capacity of up to 25 mm.
The Okatsune 101, at 180 mm long, is the most compact pruning shears among the 3 and is therefore particularly suitable for small hands. The blades of these razor-sharp pruning shears are forged from the finest Japanese steel (the same steel used to make the Samurai's Katana swords) and allow you to effortlessly cut branches up to 25 mm, including those of shrubs, roses, fruit trees, and climbing plants. Okatsune pruning shears are the undisputed number 1 in Japan: the country that has elevated pruning to a true art.
The blades of these Japanese pruning shears (Sentei Basami) are uniquely forged from the finest IZUMO YASUGI steel and have a very high hardness of 60 – 61 Rockwell. As a result, the blades stay sharp for a long time and always make a clean and precise cut in the wood, without requiring much effort. In addition, Okatsune combines this hardness with exceptional flexibility, so that the cutting blade always fits well against the counter blade, even under heavy use.
The blade is sharpened at two angles, allowing it to cut smoothly into the wood without unnecessarily damaging the plant. Due to the unique shape of the hollow-ground blade, sap flows away from the blade and the blades do not spread apart. The V-shape of the spring ensures that the load is evenly distributed along the length of the spring, guaranteeing a smooth closing action.
The blades are very easy to sharpen with the Okatsune whetstone (Okatsune 412). The shears feature a locking system that can be operated with one hand. Don't forget to order a leather holster along with it.
The shears are made up of only a few parts, so little maintenance is required. It is recommended to clean the blades after use. After cleaning, it is wise to oil the shears and store them dry with the cutting blades closed. If you notice that the shears are cutting less effectively, you can sharpen them with the Okatsune whetstone.
