ATLAS ash handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is kiln-dried in a climate-controlled chamber using computer control. This re-drying prevents the handle from shrinking and keeps tools firmly attached to the handle.

The ATLAS handles are then waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful light color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.

ATLAS ash handles are manufactured entirely carbon-neutral in the Netherlands.
