Spade handle ATLAS 95 cm, with through-mount T-grip, for Britta spade

Britta spade handle ATLAS of ash wood, 95 cm long, equipped with a smooth, narrow point and strong through-mount T-grip. This handle is, among others, suitable for Ideal Britta spades with double tangs. For mounting a 50 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651620, including mounting advice).

ATLAS Britta spade handles are made from ash rootstocks, where the best wood is found. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is redried in a climate chamber under computer control. Because of the redrying the handle does not shrink, tools remain firmly attached to the handle and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.

Next the spade handles are bent in boiling water. This makes the wood grain or fibre in the handle bend with it and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.

Finally the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural colour. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, which helps prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
