Shovel handle ATLAS 180 cm bent
ATLAS shovel handle made of ash wood, bent model, length 180 cm. This shovel handle is often used together with tools that are fitted with a (lip)socket.
ATLAS shovel handles are made from the lower sections of ash trunks; these contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. By re-drying, tools remain firmly fixed to the handle.
Subsequently the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain or fiber in the handle to bend along and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive natural colour. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS shovel handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
