Rivet 50 mm for IDEAL spade handles (sold in pairs)
Are you going to set up an Ideal spade? Then use these rivets and the step-by-step guide below.
50 mm rivet for mounting non-milled spade shanks with a double spring or lip socket, packed in pairs in a hanging blister.
These rivets are used to mount spade stems without a milled end, equipped with a double spring or a lip socket, to an Ideal spade or an Atlas spade, among others.
Adjust spade
1) Remove the old rivet by carefully grinding off the rounded head and tapping it out.
2) Remove the old wood from the socket or neck. This is easiest when the wood is dry.
3) Place the new handle carefully into the socket or neck and ensure that the grip is parallel to the spade blade.
4) Tap the handle upside down (with the spade blade up) onto the floor, up to the milled end. Place a thick piece of cardboard on the floor beforehand to prevent damage to the handle or floor.
5) Next, secure the spade firmly in a bench vise.
6) Drill with a wood bit straight through the hole in the side of the socket or neck until halfway through the handle and repeat this operation from the other side.
7) Place the rivet through the hole.
8) Remove the spade from the bench vise and place the spade so that the rounded side of the rivet rests against the now-tightened bench vise.
9) Carefully peen the rivet all around with a light engineer's hammer.
10) The spade is now expertly adjusted and ready for use.
