Spade handle ATLAS 110 cm milled end, with through-mount T-grip, for S&J spade

Spade handle ATLAS of ash wood, length 110 cm, equipped with a strong through-mount T-grip and a milled, smooth, narrow end, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 25 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For mounting, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651590, including installation advice).

ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a computer-controlled climate chamber. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink, tools remain firmly attached to the handle and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or staples.

The ATLAS handles are then waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful light natural color. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
