Spade handle ATLAS 85 cm, not milled end, with T-grip, for S&J spade

Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood in length 85 cm, fitted with a T-grip and a smooth, narrow point, among others suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade with lip. This handle is 5 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For installation a 50 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651620, including installation advice).

ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber, computer-controlled. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and tools remain firmly attached to the handle.

The ATLAS handles are then waxed with plant-based Carnauba wax. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural color. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
