TALPEX mole trap, a galvanised trap equipped with a strong spring and an adjustment pin. The TALPEX mole trap is the most commonly used trap by gardeners, pest controllers and garden enthusiasts. A tensioning kit is available to make the trap easier to set.

Tips for placing the TALPEX mole trap:
Moles first create a so-called perimeter run around the plot. The mole continues to use this run to move around. From the perimeter run the mole makes runs in different directions, taking it further into the plot. The mole will use these runs regularly, which is why they are a suitable place to set a mole trap. You can check whether a run is in use by flattening it and checking the next day to see if the mole has reopened it.

Place the mole trap in a straight section of tunnel, whenever possible as close as possible to the ring run. Are the tunnels too deep? Then place the trap in the ring run.

Carefully open the run and then remove all loose soil. Place the trap in the opening and check whether it can easily snap shut. Then set the mole trap and place it in the run. Optionally test whether the trap can easily snap shut.
Always place the set trap with the setting pin on the top, angled in the run so that the setting plate is at an angle of approximately 135 degrees. Close the opening by sprinkling some loose soil around the trap and cover the whole with, for example, pieces of turf or leaves.

Check the mole trap daily! Remove a caught mole as soon as possible and always put the trap back immediately. This is because the tunnels are often used by multiple moles. After three days still no mole caught? Then the run is almost certainly no longer in use. Check other runs for activity and move the trap to a run that is still being visited. Always clean the mole trap thoroughly after use with a stiff brush and store it dry.

Moles have a very good sense of smell, so it is advisable to wear gloves when handling and placing mole traps. Generally there are up to 15 moles per hectare on a property. In some cases this can even increase to 25 to 30 moles.
