Forged clay spade, round-shaped model. Polished, forged, hollow-ground and fitted with a strong ATLAS T-handle with a length of 95 cm. This clay spade Betuwe model is forged from a single block of iron, smoothly polished and has a characteristic sharp hollow edge. The hollow edge makes it possible to cut or spade soil very precisely. Because of the former Merkus smithy in Elst, this product is nowadays mainly sold in the Betuwe and surrounding area. ATLAS handles are made of ash wood, are bent in boiling water (these are extra strong because the grain follows the curve), are mirror-smooth waxed (prevents blisters), and are climate-chamber dried (the handle does not shrink and the tool stays firmly attached). All advantages combined make this spade with ATLAS handle a true gem to work with. Also available with a longer handle (art. no. 810140).
