Spade handle ATLAS 85 cm not milled, with through-mount T-grip, for S&J spade

Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood, length 85 cm, equipped with a strong through-mount T-grip and a smooth, narrow tip, among others suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade with a lip. This handle is 5 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For mounting a 50 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651620, including mounting advice).

ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber, computer-controlled. By re-drying the handle does not shrink, tools remain firmly attached to the handle and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.

Next the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive natural color. The waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
