Spade handle ATLAS 100 cm milled end, with through-mount T-grip, for S&J spade

ATLAS spade handle made of ash wood, length 100 cm, fitted with a strong through-mount T-grip and a milled end, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This spade handle is 15 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly a 40 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651590, including assembly advice).

ATLAS spade handles are made from ash wood rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. By re-drying the handle does not shrink, tools remain firmly attached to the handle and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.

Subsequently the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its nice natural color. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
