Digging shovel ATLAS DIAMANT, Drents model with socket setting 1/4 bent and blade size 000, complete with a bent ATLAS shovel handle 110 cm long, fitted with a through-mount T-grip. The polished blade is hardened and has a sharp cutting edge.

The ATLAS shovel handle is made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood has been re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. As a result the handle does not shrink, tools remain firmly fixed to the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or staples.

ATLAS handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain or fibre in the handle to follow the bend, preventing the grain from running out of the handle. The bending process makes the handle extremely strong. Additionally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba, which ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, thereby helping to prevent blisters.

Explanation of socket angle
The socket angle indicates the angle relative to the blade. The higher the socket angle, the more inclined the socket. This determines whether a shovel is designed for digging or for scooping. The socket angle is measured from the ground to the socket when the blade lies flat on the ground.

Straight: the handle is almost in line with the blade
1/4: the socket is bent up by 35 mm, for example for digging shovels
1/2: the socket is bent up by 55 mm, for example for scoop shovels and concrete shovels
3/4: the socket is bent up by 70 cm, for example with scoop shovels and deep shovels

Explanation of blade width
In the past there were blade widths that ran from number 2 down to 0, with 2 being the largest. Over time the blades had to be made smaller due to working conditions and smaller size standards were introduced.
