The hardened steel head is smoothly polished and fitted with a sharp cutting edge. The broad wedge-shaped head ensures the wood splits easily. The ergonomically shaped handle is comfortable to hold and provides a good grip thanks to the non-slip grip on the underside. Thanks to the steel handle protection, the risk of damage from missed strikes is reduced. The handle is made of hickory wood; this hard American wood species is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is particularly tough, shock-resistant and resilient.
