Spade handle ATLAS of ash wood in length 100 cm, equipped with a T-grip and a milled, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 20 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For mounting a 40 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651590, including mounting advice).

ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and tools remain firmly fixed to the handle.

Next the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive pale colour. The waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than the use of varnish or paraffin.
