The Okatsune 101, at a length of 180 mm, is the most compact pruning shear of the three and is therefore particularly suitable for small hands. The blades of this razor-sharp pruning shear are forged from the finest Japanese steel (the same steel used to make the katanas of the samurai) and allow you to effortlessly cut branches up to 25 mm thick, including those from shrubs, roses, fruit trees and climbers. Okatsune pruning shears are the undisputed number one in Japan: the country that has elevated pruning to a true art.

The blades of this Japanese pruning shear (Sentei Basami) are uniquely forged from the finest IZUMO YASUGI steel and have a very high hardness of 60–61 Rockwell. As a result, the blades stay sharp for a long time and always make a clean and precise cut in wood without requiring much force. In addition, Okatsune combines this hardness with exceptional flexibility so that the cutting blade always fits well against the counter blade, even under heavy load.

The blade is ground at two angles so it cuts smoothly into the wood and does not unnecessarily damage the plant. Due to the unique shape of the hollow-ground blade, sap runs off the blade and the blades do not splay apart. The V-shape of the spring ensures the load is evenly distributed along the length of the spring, guaranteeing a smooth closing.

The blades are very easy to sharpen with the Okatsune whetstone (Okatsune 412). The scissors feature a locking mechanism that can be operated with one hand. Don't forget to order a leather holster at the same time.

The scissors are constructed from only a few parts, so they require little maintenance. It is recommended to clean the blades after use. After cleaning, it is advisable to oil the scissors and store them in a dry place with the cutting blades closed. If you notice the scissors cutting less effectively, you can sharpen them with the Okatsune whetstone.
